There is kind of a funny story about getting this picture of the Wood Duck. For over a year now, we've been searching for the Wood Duck that some other photographers have gotten pictures of and when we go to the same areas, he's never around :) So due to us never seeing it, anytime someone showed us a photo of one they took, we said "photoshopped".....LOL :)
He was not there when we first got to the creek. There were plenty of Mallard Ducks though and all looking for some attention and bickering among themselves. Then on the other end of the creek, we saw another duck start swimming up to the rest of them. As he got closer, we could see it was the elusive Wood Duck (male). He must have been dunking himself in the water as he had waterdrops all over him. He then began mingling among the mallards. I went over towards the water edge to get a lower view. He started swimming up to the bank to where I was kneeling. At the time of this photo, he was probably about 7 feet from me. He swam back and forth and stopped to check us out. He's a lot quicker and smaller in size than the mallards. Then he swam over to the other side of the creek. Mrs Wood Duck didn't make an appearance this morning, but maybe we'll see her too at some point :)
