Today, I took my daughter over to the creek to meet the ducks that were hanging around. I wasn't sure if we were going to see the wood ducks as it was later in the day. When we arrived, it was just before the sun was going to start to set, so it was very low light. There had to be 2 or more dozen mallard ducks there, all gathered together, fighting for space (they were pretty crammed). I didn't see either wood duck on the start, but then someone motioned us over in their direction. And there she was, Mrs Wood Duck. She was pretty feisty. She kept the other ducks in their place and if they came too close to her or bumped into her, she would make her feelings known by trying to nip them....lol. Mr Wood Duck wasn't there but I was told he was there about 30 minutes prior to our arrival. My daughter was so excited to see Mrs Wood Duck.....well, so was I....lol. We have waited a long time to see wood ducks (male and female), it was such a nice feeling to finally see both. Great start to the new year :) This photo was taken when she moved over to the edge of the creek as if she wanted to get her portrait done :) She wasn't very far away from us. I couldn't fit her all in the frame, so decided to take a close up portrait.
