Continued from Roger's Picture of the Day, we ended up in Point-du-Chene on our short road trip. There were plenty of Great Blue Herons around late this afternoon, all fishing for their supper. We spotted this guy over to one side and took a few pictures. Then I decided I wanted to get a better view so I walked around to the beach area and proceeded to go towards him in a round about way, but fully expecting him to fly away before I got close enough (as they usually do). I stopped every few seconds to take a quick photo and pause to see if he was getting ready to fly. I did this several times until I was at the end of the beach area (where the water usually is but it was low tide). To my surprise, he never even looked at me. He was so focused on the fish he was trying to sneak up on that he wasn't concerned I was standing there. My feet got wet and my footwear got very muddy, but it was worth it when he slowly stepped forward and then dove his head in the water after a fish. :)
The fish won the battle and got away, this time :) The below images show the sequence of the "catch and release"....lol. I added a little caption with each photo for a little fun :)
"Almost got you..."
"No, no, no....."
