Charity Begins At Home

This Saturday, November 3rd, I will be participating in a charity event that I have been doing for the last 6 years now, Extra Life Game Day.  It is a 24-hour gaming marathon where the gaming community comes together to raise money for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals (CMNH), specifically in my case, the IWK in Halifax, NS.

Here are just a few facts and figures that describe what donations to CMNH get used for:

Every day CMNH treats 16,200 kids with trauma

Every day CMNH treats 935 kids with diabetes

Every day CMNH treats 2,128 kids with cancer

Every day CMNH treats 2,329 kids for surgeries

Every day CMNH treats 925 babies with NICU

62 children enter CMNH every minute!

1 in 10 children in North America are treated by a CMNH each year

32 million patient visits are provided for 10 million kids every year by CMN Hospitals

CMNH members provide $3.4 billion in charity care annually.

Since 1983, CMNH has raised more than $5 billion, most of it a dollar at a time.

Every minute, CMNH provide $6500 to help save kids’ lives.

Donating $1/hour of game play ($24) provides 26 smiley face squeeze balls to help children relax before treatments.

Donating $24-$48 provides six pairs of children's crutches to give kids a chance to be mobile after surgery.

Donating $48-$96 provides sixteen packs of Uno cards, the most popular game in the hospital.

Over the next 15 days, CMN Hospitals will be there to provide treatment for the 1,339,200 kids who will enter their doors.

Over the next 15 days, CMN Hospitals will be there to provide $140,400,000 in charitable care for families who aren't able to pay their medical bills.

Over the next 15 days, CMN Hospitals will be there to treat 33,270 kids with cancer and to perform 34,935 life-saving surgeries on kids who need them.
