Picture of the Day - "Eye To Eye With A Canada Goose" - May 8, 2017

Went for a walk at our local park with my daughter tonight. She had a chickadee land in her hand which fascinated her as well as squirrels and some mallard ducks come up to us. Then after continuing our walk, we came to this pond where we could see a Canada Goose on the far side of the pond. There were mallard ducks next to the edge of the pond and we both knelt down to see the ducks. Then the goose spotted us and started making it's way across the pond towards us. This time of year, canada geese are quite territorial and I wasn't sure what the intent was for this goose as it was swimming up towards us quite quickly. But as it got closer and I kept taking photos of it swimming up to us, it turned out it was just curious about us. Usually they are very vocal if it's territorial. One mallard duck started to come up to us and then the goose snapped at the duck and the duck swam the opposite direction.....lol.  My daughter was laughing at how the goose "protected us" from the duck.....LOL.  The goose came so close, that I wasn't able to focus at times (my lens will focus to a 3 foot limit, so it was closer than this at times). It stayed there as long as we did and then my daughter said she was cold, so we left.  We've never had a goose that close to us before. I think I could have reached out with my arm and touched it :)
